I am Kath, a British woman living in Budapest and passionate about the folk traditions of Transylvania, Romania and Hungary. I have been travelling to Transylvania for many years both in my search for textiles and in various projects. I am currently working on a project documenting dowry rooms in the region.
My passion is the folk traditions of Transylvania; the dowry tooms, textiles, the traditional crafts, folk dress and food production. Each area has its own specific folk heritage, all distinct and all beautiful
In 2022 I was asked to produce a feature on Transylvania for Cabana magazine (published in print October 2022), following publication I had several enquiries about tours. I held my first tour in October 2023. It was a great success.
I love the region and the people and have lots of connections, inside knowledge and top tips!

Small, friendly, fun and village based with the input of local communities and involving local guides. I want these tours to dig deep and to give an immersive cultural experience. Many of these areas are not well developed in terms of tourism and many of the places we visit would not normally be accessible to tourists. These tours are about about local connections
None of this would be possible without the cooperation of locals and organisations to which I am deeply grateful. I try wherever to use local guides, locally owned accommodation, locally grown and produced food and to support the makers , growers and suppliers.
A proportion of any profits in Transylvania go towards Tarnat-Kalotaszeg Durabil supporting sustainable development in the area

..A story perfectly produced by Kath Griffiths..who put together an ideal itinerary, mixing traditional houses and churches and finding a myriad of detail (think cross stitch panels, embroidered cushions, painted furniture and ceramics) in those rooms that are suspended in time Martina Mondadori, Editor in chief, Cabana Magazine
Although I knew Kath had connections in the area, it was still a real blessing to be welcomed into the private homes, and further into the Dowry Rooms where the families most prized textiles are lovingly stored. (much fun playing at dress-up)
I would quite happily do the tour again. Suzanne Mannolini, tour participant 2023
