A 90 minute train ride from Budapest lies the town of Mezokovesd, the largest of three towns/ villages of the Matyo people, famous for their colourful folk art and costumes. I have written about Mezokovesd before but that was before I had visited on Easter Monday when the town is awash with beautiful costumes, folk dance and crafts . Its crowded and may not be the best time to visit some of the attractions in the Hadas ( old town) but its a great time to see traditional costumes, dance and music
It’s a great day out for those interested in Hungarian folk costume dance or just like some colour in their lives. We visited the honey cake maker, the furniture painter and very sweet house of Kisjanko Bori all in the Hadas well as the Matyo museum which is a few minutes walk away. Its easily do-able as a day trip from Budapest. It;s great for kids too with a folky playground in one of the gardens.
